So this year both my pool pump went out and the Dolphin vacuum went out. I attempted to clean the pool manually, on top of working full-time and having four kids, but even with all the scrubbing and old school hand vacuuming, I could not get the pool to that crystal clear level. I would’ve replaced the vacuum right at the beginning of the year but I have trouble throwing things out I seem like they still have life left and the body of my vacuum, although it was sun faded still seemed like it was mechanically OK. I saved thousands earlier this year by just replacing my pool pump motor and leaving the assembly in place. I had considered going to an upgraded pump system but when I could save 2000+ dollars by just doing the motor and one hours worth of labor it was a no-brainer. Kind of the same thing with the dolphin vacuum. Found that I could just replace the motor for 300 bucks versus getting a brand new unit for $2000. And yes the $2000 version is the luxury programmable pool vacuum that I would have to buy because it’s super cool.
Bottom line is, for me I figure I saved about $1700 by just replacing the motor. I paid an extra 10 bucks to shave off a few days of shipping. The motor got to my house in five days professionally packaged. Plugged it back into the housing of my dolphin DX4. Since I have taken it apart so many times and only took me about 30 minutes to complete. Dropped the thing in the pool fully submerged turned it on and I’m back to crystal clear water. The original motor lasted about 10 years so I’m hoping I get 5+ Years out of this one too.
