I purchased a new Taylor K-1000 test kit because the color patches on my old tester had started to fade after about 20 years and therefore were producing potentially inaccurate readings. At first I thought the Taylor product was a bit harder to use in terms of hitting the desired water-test level...but I found with practice that one good shake after filling the two columns with pool water brought the fill line right to the mark. I also think there's maybe one more color level than my previous tester, allowing for more accurate readings. The holes in the K-1000 are square, not round, compared to my old tester...and larger...but my fingers are large so I can still cover the holes and give thing a good shake. Most people will probably have to use the cap to make sure they don't provided...toss test water all over the place. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to others. I basically purchased it because I needed to push my purchase over the minimum for free shipping.
